Dear Rose Enthusiasts,
We had a wonderful meeting of the National Clean Plant Network at the beautiful Los Angeles Arboretum. The staff and the facilities were excellent and the free roaming peacocks made for quite a colorful background.
As a group we have made tremendous progress in the 3 years we have been active. Among the tasks we have accomplished are the renovation of the clean rose collection at the Foundation Plant Services in Davis, California, the definition of the important viral threats to the industry and the updating of the protocols to detect them, the expansion of the collection to include the commercially important and non patented modern and old rose garden varieties, and the development of an outreach program to spread the word of how important this program is to the health of the industry.
Mosaic caused by a coinfection of two viruses – Apple Mosaic Virus (ApMV) and Prunus Necrotic ringspot Virus (PNRSV). Although the visual symptom is mild, the viruses generally decrease the plant growth as well as lower flower production.
